- Staff reporter

Halfway is set to enjoy a gala day at the start of August courtesy of a community group.

Particip8 Overton will host the gala day at North Halfway Hall on Graham Avenue next Saturday, August 1.

The event was held last year and was hugely popular.

It will run from 1pm till 4pm.

Secretary of Overton Particip8 Jim Walker said: “Come along and join us for a day of fun, food and great entertainment - there’s something for everyone.

“Bike Town will be there, bring your bike and let the experts have a look; we have the Skate Ramp, come and try, but be warned it’s not for the faint hearted.

“For all you budding sports stars come along and try a new sport, we have Judo, Rugby, Football, Climbing Wall and lots of games for all ages.

“For music lovers we have the great CamGlen Radio and the Boogie Bus why not come along and join in, you never know you could be Cambuslang Easts new singing sensation.

“For the rest of us there’s stalls hosted by local groups, health professionals and many more or why not try your luck at the bingo.”

Particp8 Overton was set up five years ago after South Lanarkshire Council took advantage of the Scottish Government’s Participatory budget.

The group aimed to build on existing initiatives in the area such as diversionary projects like Move the Goalposts to give kids an alternative to hanging about the streets.

It is now firmly established with a committee of around 15 people and partners including South Lanarkshire Council, Rutherglen Police and VASLan ( Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire).
