Twitter Q&A on adoption advice

- Douglas Dickie

South Lanarkshire Council are hosting a Twitter question and answer session this week for parents who might be thinking about adoption.

Parents in Rutherglen and Cambuslang with a Twitter account can tweet @ SouthLanCouncil and a trained social worker from the family placement team will be on hand to answer questions.

Someone who has already been adopted will also be involved in the chat.

The authority will be using the hashtag #SLCFind40 for residents to follow the conversation.

A council spokesperson said:“We welcome enquiries from single people, families who have children of their own, or do not, or married couples, civil partnership couples or couples who have been living together for two years or more.

“All applicants must be 21 years old and should be able to parent a child until they reach age of independence.

“There should not normally be an age gap of more than 45 years between the children and younger applicant.

“We can’t take applications if you are undergoing any form of infertility treatment or are on a waiting list for treatment.

“Smokers can’t adopt children under the age of five, or children with respiratory problems, or disabilities.

“When we receive your enquiry form a social worker will get in touch with you to arrange a home visit.”

More information is on the adoption section of the South Lanarkshire website.
