Inner Wheel join the Rotary
Members of Cambuslang Rotary Club joined with the ladies of Inner Wheel on Wednesday, April 13 for an entertaining evening.
The guest speaker was Alasdair Seale a former district governor from District 1020 ( East of Scotland) who spoke about his recent visit to a Rotary project in rural Tanzania.
The project had been set up to build simple but effective water tanks to collect rain water and provide clean and disease free water for the local hospital.
Alasdair’s presentation and slides showed how this had been achieved.
Like many such projects it had developed far beyond its original intention and in the past few years the Rotarians had also helped renovate the hospital buildings, provided new washable mattresses for all the wards and had also taken out a vast array of medical equipment and mobility aids.
Alasdair spoke passionately about his subject and everyone agreed it was a wonderful example of the work overseas done by Rotary International.
The audience then had the pleasure of listening to local singing star Anna Heywood who is being sponsored by the Rotary Club to enable her to attend a very prestigious Opera Summer School in Bari, Italy.
First year university student Anna sang a selection of three pieces which included an aria from Cosi fan tutte and the classic Can’t help lovin’ dat Man.
A spokesperson for the Rotary club said: “It is fair to say that the audience were blown away by the quality of her voice and her performance.
“It was a wonderful end to a great evening.”
If anyone would like another chance to hear Anna sing she is holding an evening of music concert in Renfield St Stephens Church on Friday, May 6, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £ 5 and the proceeds will help fund her trip to Italy this summer.
