Pupils have a healthy appetite for giving
Fernhill school pupils have demonstrated their appetite for helping others less fortunate than themselves by organising a very successful bag pack appeal for Mary’s meals.
Children were asked to fill a backpack to help equip a child for school and the response was overwhelming.
Representatives from Mary’s meals collected the bags from school at the end of term and will have them transported to Malawi where they will be received by very grateful and excited children.
A Scottish charity, Mary’s Meals offers more than one million children in the world’s poorest countries a nutritious meal in their place of education.
Dr Murphy, head teacher at Fernhill School, said: “Regardless of the demands we seem to place on the generosity of our pupils and parents, it never ceases to amaze me that they respond in such an overwhelming manner. The pupils really enjoyed getting involved in the project and felt a great sense of achievement from what they did.
This is the type of learning that will remain with the children throughout their lives.”
