The Post Office in Burnside will close for three days as a series of improvements are made.

The office at 242 Stonelaw Road will close on at 12.30pm on Saturday, October 15 and reopen at 1pm on Wednesday, October 19.

Part of the Post Office’s modernisation programme, the improvements will see three screened serving positions installed which will be operational for an additional four hours and 45 minutes a week.

The branch will open from 8.45am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday and offer increased services.

This includes international parcels, special delivery, local collections and home shopping returns. Residents will be also be able to make cash withdrawals from a Post Office Card Account, send funds abroad using Moneygram, pay bills, buy holiday money, get insurance, mortgages, savings and top up mobile phones.

Dave Ogleby, Post Office area manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

He added:“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”

Customers can use Rutherglen Post Office at 217 Main Street, or Kyle Square Post Office in Spittal while the Burnside shop is closed.
