Head teacher’s job up for grabs
New primary top post filled by year end
A head teacher will be installed at the new primary school being constructed in Newton by the end of this year.
South Lanarkshire Council want to get the new person in their post by December so they can deal with the enrolment of students in January, 2017.
Councillors on an executive committee wi l l today, Wednesday, approve the establishment of the post as well as start the ball rolling on making arrangements for staffing levels.
According to a report to the committee, the new school is on schedule and due to open in August 2017.
As well as dealing with the new roll, the head teacher will start consulting with parents on issues such as the school name, badge and colours.
Once the school reaches its full capacity, 550 pupils will be on the roll with 36 staff, although this is expected to take a number of years.
Parents in the catchment area will receive a letter about enrolment over the next few months.
The area is currently zoned to Cairns Primary. Pupils currently at Cairns will be able to transfer to the new school or stay at Cairns to complete their education.
Siblings of pupils attending Cairns will have the option of attending Cairns without the need for a placing request.
This arrangement will stay in place until August 2022.
Once open it will provide 14 mainstream classes, four additional support needs classes and a large nursery.
