AULD ENEMY IN TOWN FOR CLASH
Guests head north for a great day of bowls
A team of gents arrived at Halfway from Milton Keynes for the George Mair triples last month.
Colin Kirk, Malcolm Pratt and Mick Golder made the annual trip north for the Scotland v England challenge match.
The triple team have travelled north every year since 2004 for the game and put up a good fight, but eventually lost to the Scots thanks to John Smith, John Kerr and Jacky Fergus. The original triple was Mick, Andy Parkes and Halfway past president John Docherty. Unfortunately Andy and John passed away in recent years but the friendship has continued and a great weekend is always had by all.
Two days previously, saw the annual charity coffee morning take place at Halfway and District.
This was a huge success and a big thanks went to everyone who helped organise, donated prizes, attended and bought raffle tickets. The final tournament of the year was supposed to take place at Halfway on Saturday, September 24, but the poor weather put paid to it even starting.
Twenty-four teams were lined up to take part in the George Mair Triples. The weather and cancellation didn’t dampen the spirits, however, and almost all of the 72 players stayed on to enjoy a great day at the club.
Dinner was served at 1pm and a quiz took place beforehand.
A domino tournament took place in the afternoon and 44 people took part, with Willie Anderson the eventual winner, beating Stephen McGuire in the final.
Gents president Bob Bilsland thanked lady president Audrey Stoddart, vice presidents Jim Stoddart and Lillian O’Neil, the committee, members, sponsors, caterers and bar staff for making his year a successful one.
