It’s a wonderful radio play...

- Jonathan Geddes

A beloved Christmas classic is coming to Rutherglen Town Hall - with a difference.

It’s A Wonderful Life will be performed as a live action radio play at the Town Hall on Sunday, December 4.

The performance is based on the classic film, which starred James Stewart as George Bailey, an everyman struggling with depression one Christmas Eve.

As he starts to think back over his life, it might take an angel’s intervention to make him realise what is really important in life.

This adaptation is performed by the Running Late Theatre Company, and is set in a radio studio as a cast perform the story.

Running Late Theatre’s Lorna Gold said: “We are looking forward to bringing our production to South Lanarkshire as it is very close to our hearts.

Myself, Ailsa and Allan from the group studied at Langside College together, just down the road from Rutherglen), I grew up in Lesmahagow and Ailsa and Susan both live in South Lanarkshire.

“It is important for us to be able to bring this story to the local community.

“The story itself is about love, hope and despair and the power of community coming together to support one another in times of need.

“We noticed that there was a general consensus among our peers that there is a distinct lack of community nowadays but we disagree and this show is a reflection of that.

“Our aim with this tour of South Lanarkshire venues is to bring people together, first and foremost to entertain them, but also to provide a place to escape, reflect and unite in this shared experience.

“We are using the original Radio Play transcript and have added our own flourishes like jingles, adverts and some festive singing.”

The performance is at 2.30pm on December 4 and tickets are £10.

They are available from the box office at Rutherglen Town Hall, via the website www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk or on 0141 613 5700.
