O’Neils BC travelled south for the Shildon ABC show in England on Friday, November 11.

First up for the club was current Scottish Novice schoolgirl champion Chloe Bodwick who faced Meah Wright in a non-scoring skills bout.

Chloe boxed brilliantly and dominated every round with crisp left and right shots in what was a great show from both girls.

Next in the ring for the Cambuslang club was Fahid Mohammed, the former intermediate lightweight champion. He was taking on the more experienced A. Arshad of the Natural Progression Boxing Club in England.

Arshad started strong, coming forward and throwing big hooks early. But some slick footwork from Fahid coupled with impressive straight combinations soon had his opponent on the back foot.

The future rounds continued in much of the same rhythm but Arshad was then warned by the referee for holding on and was therefore deducted a point in the third round. But this made no difference to the final result as the Cambuslang lad’s boxing skills had already sealed the win.

Last on for O’Neils was current Scottish Novice champion, Paul Murphy of Blantyre. In what was Paul’s ninth contest, it proved to be a tough bout as he took on the more experienced Ross Fuller who was boxing his 15th contest to date.

The first round saw both boxers go toe- to- toe, exchanging punches at the centre of the ring with Fuller whipping in some solid uppercuts on Murphy. However, some left and right hooks sent his opponent on the back foot and Murphy soon let rip with some wicked straight rights and lefts to take the round.

Neither boxer gained the upper hand in the second but the action continued .

Both traded shots and Paul pulled off some vicious left and right hand jabs in the third to leave his weary challenger rocking and eventually took the bout by a unanimous points decision.

The club were also in action in Inverness on November 5 where Paul Murphy of Rutherglen, defeated Cameron Mackay from the Highland Boxing Academy.

Cambuslang’s Wesley Maghee also competed and made his debut against Ewan Murray in a non- scoring exhibition bout.
