The Springhall community have rallied round to pay tribute to a resident who died at the weekend.

The body of Martin Wilson, 30, was found on the morning of Saturday, November 19.

Martin was a well known and well liked figure in Springhall and played for Springhall Spartans FC.

Dozens of people took to social media over the weekend to pay their respects to the father-of-two.

His team-mates bravely played their game on Sunday, just a day after hearing of Martin’s death.

A post on the club Facebook site said: “As many of you know Martin Knk Wilson has passed on and is now at peace. We as a team would like to express our condolences and sympathies with his family and friends at this very sad time.

“We decided to play our game tomorrow at Glasgow Green at 2pm, where we will have a minute’s applause in memory of Martin.

“Would be good to see as many people down as can make it and show our support and make sure his life is celebrated.”

The club also changed their profile picture to one of Martin’s shirt, number two, with RIP on it.

They are now in the process of organising a memorial game, expected to take place on Saturday, December 17 at Toryglen indoor football centre.

This will be followed by a children’s party at the Springhall Community Centre. His brother, Ryan, posted: “Just like to thank everyone for their support today, let’s just remember Martin as his happy go lucky self that he once was.”

Others also posted their tributes to Martin. One person wrote: “Can’t believe it. I just found out this. Wee man was the best man about.”

Another said: “As you know I’m a Toryglen boy but my heart is Springhall and always will be. RIP Wilson. Can’t believe you are gone bro. Heartbreaking.”

Other football clubs also paid their respects.

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up by locals to help with the funeral costs. Residents can donate at www.gofundme.com/ to-help-with-martins-funeral.
