Wee Glens in demolition

- Peter Ferguson at Glasgow Green

Glencairn U21s ..... 7 Bonnyton Th ......... 0

Substitute Jordan Davidson scored a 22-minute hat-trick in Glencairn Under 21s’ seven-goal demolition of Bonnyton. It moved the young Glens side to within a point of league leaders Tower Hearts at the top of the West of Scotland Under 21 Premier League, although they have played three games more.

Having settled after a wobbly start, The Glens started to dominate the match and deservedly took the lead in the 21st minute. The tricky skills of Craig Dallas had been a feature already, and he found his way into the penalty area before dribbling round Kerr and squeezing the ball into the net.

The lead was doubled in the 51st minute as a diagonal ball to the back post saw Njabulo Ndlovu ghost in behind his marker to volley the ball through Kerr’s legs from close range.

Bonnyton made two substitutions, one of them being goalkeeper Stuart Cowan, before the defence switched off from a corner kick.

They found themselves 3-0 down when Clark headed across goal at the back post into the path of Josh McCorry who forced the ball over the line.

It seemed at this stage that a demolition could be on the cards, and Ndlovu hit the crossbar with a firm drive on the rebound in the 63rd minute after Phinn had been denied again.

In the 65th minute striker Davidson replaced Dale Campbell and he made an immediate impact as he fired in Glencairn’s fourth two minutes later.

More clever play on the right by Dallas saw the ball fed into the right side of the penalty area to Davidson who turned his marker well before curling a perfect shot over Cowan and into the far corner of the net.

Kyle Chrystal replaced Alex Greer in central defence and later the first two substitutes combined to make it 5-0.

Clark surged forward from defence and got to the byeline before cutting the ball across goal where Davidson was waiting to make a precise first-time finish into the far corner.

Anton Phinn converted a free-kick in the 75th minute for Glens‘ sixth before Davidson fired home a penalty to complete his hat-trick.
