Bully Wee humbled by City

-

Ediniburgh City ....... 0 Clyde....................... 0

Gutted Clyde boss Barry Ferguson watched his side earn their first league point of 2017 then slammed his strikers for missed chances.

Edinburgh City keeper Andrew Stobie produced a great save from Bully Wee striker Peter MacDonald’s header in the 68th minute then denied David Gormley right at the end.

Ferguson said: “We should have won the game. Peaso and Gorms should have won the game for us.

“But I don’t need to tell them that – they know themselves they should have finished better.”

The Bully Wee gaffer made one change to the starting line-up after last week’s cup win over Stirling, with Marc McKenzie replacing Scott Ferguson.

In an uneventful first half, John Gibson was the first keeper called into action when he came out to thwart a home attack in just five minutes, following a defensive lapse.

Then it was Clyde who threatened, when a good run and cross down the right by McKenzie produced a corner from which the same player brought out a fingertip save from the home keeper.

The Bully Wee threatened more in the second half but the chances were still few and far between. MacDonald had a great chance to put Clyde ahead from a Gormley cross in the 70th minute but his far post header brought out a point blank save from Stobie.

In an attempt to force the play, Matty Flynn was brought on for Higgins and young Aaron Millar also came on for MacDonald for his debut.

With virtually his first touch of the ball, Millar rose high to put David Gormley through one on one with the keeper but he again made a crucial stop to end a frustrating afternoon for The Bully Wee.

Ferguson said: “Second half it was all us. I knew in the first half with the wind and the conditions that we had to look to come in level and then we would have a go at them in the second half. That is what we did and we should have won.

“For the performance we had on Tuesday and moving on, you can see why City take points off people because of the way they play. The five at the back don’t move out of their positions.”
