Last week saw the last in a highly successful series of lectures on the subject of the Reformatio­n, delivered by Rev Alistair May from Stonelaw Parish Church and Father Frank Dougan from St Mark’s.

Over the last four weeks the pair have delivered a series of lectures taking a large audience, drawn from across Rutherglen churches, through from the pre-Reformatio­n Church and the origins of the Reformatio­n, the Reformatio­n in Scotland, the Catholic Counter-Reformatio­n and the developmen­t of the church in Scotland to the present day.

Each of the four lectures was attended by an attentive audience of between 80-100 who enjoyed a chat over a cup of tea or coffee in St Mark’s Church Hall afterwards.

A future series is being discussed. Burnside Blairbeth Church will hold Messy Church this Saturday, April 1.

It includes crafts and games, mixed with Bible stories and a meal.

They will also be holding Messy Communion on Good Friday from 11.30am until 1pm.

There will be activities as well as a sandwich and club lunch.

The church’s recent performanc­e by the Phoenix Choir was a huge success and raised £3000 for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and the Beatson. Fernhill and Cathkin Parish Church’s Tuesday Tea Room is open for all each week from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The Fitless Follies keep fit class led by Myra Kerr meets every Wednesday at 10.30am. Rutherglen West and Wardlawhil­l Church friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am-noon. A men’s shed has started up in Rutherglen Baptist Community Church.

The objective of men’s shed is to give men who have time on their hands a place to meet.

A workshop area will be built at one end of the hall, with a relaxation area available to sit and chat and put the world to rights over a cup of tea.

To be part of this project call in any Thursday between 10am and 1pm to the upstairs hall or call Ron Taylor on 0782113706­9 for more informatio­n. Stonelaw Church’s Cafe@The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am-2.30pm.

Tea and coffee are available, along with home baking and a second-hand book stall.

Stonelaw Church holds 30-minute services in the Meeting Place on the first Wednesday of every month at 2pm, followed by tea and coffee until 3pm.

These services are aimed at those who cannot attend a Sunday service. St Columbkill­e’s Church is offering a chance to have a cuppa every day of the week after 10am mass.

There will be a hot cup of tea or coffee and roll with bacon or sausage.

All proceeds will go towards keeping the church hall functionin­g.

Donations of baking and unwanted gifts are welcome. Croftfoot United Free Church hold T In The Croft every Friday from 10am until noon.

They also hold Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month from 11.30am-1.30pm.

Entry is £1.50. Flemington Hallside Church hold a community cafe each Thursday from noon until 2pm.
