This Saturday sees the mixed pairs competitio­n take place at Halfway and District.

Twenty-four teams will battle it out for the honours with the winners earning the right to represent the club in this year’s Bowls Scotland National Mixed Pairs.

The first external competitio­n started this week with the RDBA Gilliland League kicking off on Tuesday night.

Halfway were away to Overtoun Park and next week’s opponents are Whitefield at home.

The two-bowl pairs sponsored by Curleys Butchers, will take place on Saturday, May 13 with a 12pm start. Anyone still to put their name up for this competitio­n should do so this weekend.

The McPike 1+1 pairs takes place on Sunday, May 21 with a 10am start. Both of these competitio­ns are open to ladies and gents. It has been a relatively quiet week at the Whitefield Club with the season just about to spark into action.

The annual gents parish match against Cambuslang will be held on Saturday at Cambuslang BC at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.

The club look forward to renewing old acquaintan­ces in what is always an eagerly anticipate­d challenge match.

The senior representa­tive games swung into action with the first week of the Cambuslang and District League.

Whitefield played Cambuslang in the two rink format and honours were even with one win to each team.

The gents aggregate winners were Peter Law and Michael O’Hagan who were 17 shots up.

The ladies aggregate is played today, Wednesday, and, as with the gents, starts at 7pm prompt.

Last week’s winners were Margaret Fellows and Anne Grant.

The numbers participat­ing are a bit low at the moment so any lady member wishing to play will be made more than welcome. The Gilliland League’s first game was set to take place yesterday, Tuesday, with Cambuslang playing away to Tollcross Bowling Club.

The club’s second league game is against Kingswood on May 9.

In the Cambuslang District Seniors Rinks League, the club had two rinks at home against Whitefield where they we won one and lost one on April 26.

They play away to Templeton BC today, Wednesday, at 10.30am.

Monday points, May 1: John McKillop and Robert Park were four up.

This Saturday Cambuslang have their annual parish game at home against Whitefield, 2pm.
