A further 128 homes could be built off Gilbertfield Road as a second developer seeks to start work on the greenbelt site.

Dundas Estates and Development Company is seeking planning permission to build 47 homes on 2.01hectares of land situated between Gilbertfield Road and Lightburn Road.

It represents the final application which will complete the second phase of their Gilbertfield View estate.

Phase one was completed in 2012 when 61 homes were built.

The news comes just weeks after the controversial Persimmon Homes development for 386 homes was granted planning permission, despite more than 1,200 people signing a petition protesting against it.

But Dundas argues its development is sensitive to the local landscape.

Mike Andrews, line and development manager at Dundas, said: “We are hopeful of securing detailed planning consent for phase two within the next two to three months and on that basis we would commence building work towards the end of this year.

“Subject to planning consent, the full extent of phase two will be 128 homes. The project will take around three and a half years to build and sell. The homes on phase two will be very similar to phase one, but with the addition of a block of two bed flats and a block of cottage flats with gardens.

“Cambuslang is a long established town with a good range of shops and community facilities.

“The development is conveniently situated with good transport links – access to the M74 and M8 motorways and regular train services from Newton Station.

“The location also benefits from a quiet setting on the edge of the countryside whilst still being close to the wide range of shops, restaurants and entertainment available in Glasgow City Centre.”

Dundas is already seeking notes of interest for the houses, with a press release on its website stating phase two will be launched in the next few months.

The proposal includes a mix of two-storey detached and semi-detached houses ranging from three to five bedrooms.

Heather Birrell, sales and marketing manager says on the website: “Everyone that came to visit Gilbertfield View told us how much they liked the choice of houses and the convenient location.

“The next phase will be just as exciting and will offer a similar wide selection of house types. There will be something for everyone from growing families to professional couples. The time is right register your interest in this phase so that we can keep you fully informed of what’s on offer and how the site is developing.”
