Lang’s perfect start goes on

- Jim Logan at Guys Meadow

Cambuslang Rangers made it four wins from four in the Super First Division with Saturday’s 3-1 win over Cumbernauld United.

The visitors had to do without Jamie Hay and John Gemmell who were both on holiday. However, new signing Barry Eley, who recently arrived from Wishaw, was handed a debut.

The home side had former Scotland and Aberdeen star Robbie Winters in their line-up and he managed to get United’s consolation goal near the end.

It was a pretty drab start for both sides as neither took a hold of the game in the early stages. The first real chance of the match fell to Winters for the home side but he fired just wide from a promising position.

The visitors went close after 25 minutes when Hal Bohme fired in an effort from 20 yards that flew just over the bar.

United should have opened the scoring on 31 minutes but as Winters crossed for Paddy McCabe, the striker missed the target from six yards.

And they were made to pay five minutes later when Dale Simeon’s clever pass set up Callum McRobbie to nip in and score.

The same two players were at it again as The Lang doubled their lead before half-time.

McRobbie collected another pass from Simeon to squeeze his shot in from the narrowest of angles off the inside of the post.

Lang keeper Iain Stewart was called into action early in the second half but pulled off a fine save from the head of George Watson.

Cambuslang replaced McRobbie with Kilmartin on 75 minutes and within 10 minutes of being on the park the match was all but over as the sub grabbed Lang’s third of the game.

He latched on to a long ball forward and kept his cool while one-on-one with the keeper to slot past the despairing dive of Jordan Brown.

Veteran Winters headed the ball into the net from McLaughlin’s deep cross right at the death. But it was too little too late as The Lang collected their fourth consecutive three points.
