A bus has been organised to allow those in the Toryglen and Rutherglen area to attend the Reformation 500 service in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews on Tuesday, October 31. There will be a short time to explore the town and have a bite to eat before the service starts at 5.30pm when the preacher will be the Rt Rev and Rt Hon Rowan Williams. On Thursday, October 26 the national award winning Renfrew Burgh Band will hold a concert in Toryglen Parish Church at 7.30pm in aid of church funds. Tickets will be available at the door. They also hold Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Entry is £1.50. ●Flemington Hallside Church holds a community cafe each Thursday from noon until 2pm. The Women’s Guild meet on Wednesdays at 7pm and friendly hour for the elderly takes place on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. ●Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday from noon until 2pm for Thoughtful Thursdays, which provides quiet time away from the hustle and bustle. Tea and biscuits are available for £1. Volunteers are needed to serve at a lunch club at St Bride’s. ●Stonelaw Parish Church is to hold a new course on the Bible. Living Faith: exploring the essentials of Christianity is a course about what Christians believe, and what it all means. It is aimed at helping understand the basic facts – and perhaps dig a little deeper. There will be five sessions. The sessions will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday nights, starting September 28. Stonelaw Church’s Cafe@The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 2.30pm. Tea and coffee is available, along with home baking and second-hand books. The church holds 30 minute services in the meeting place on the first Wednesday of every month at 2pm. ●Rutherglen’s Salvation Army has a host of events going on, including toddler groups, the jam club and singing groups. The Fitness Follies keep fit class meets every Wednesday at 10.30am. ●Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church will host their next board games and film ●The St Bride’s Bible study group meet every Thursday night at the parish house at 7pm.
