News in brief from around the local churches

■ The proceeds of the next monthly coffee morning of Rutherglen Old Parish Church will go to the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Everyone will be warmly welcomed this Saturday, October 14, from 10am until noon.

The cost is £2 for tea/coffee and cakes, tablet and marmalade will be on sale to enjoy at home. ■ The Annual Christian Aid coffee fayre will be held on Saturday October 21, from 10am until noon.

This will take place in West and Wardlawhill hall in Hamilton Road.

It is a £2.50 entry and this includes a cuppa, cakes and a chance to catch up with friends. ■ Flemington Hallside Church hosts a community cafe each Thursday from noon until 2pm.

The women’s guild meet on Wednesdays at 7pm and friendly hour for the elderly takes place on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. ■ Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday from noon until 2pm for Thoughtful Thursdays, which provides quiet time away from the hustle and bustle.

Tea and biscuits are available for £1. ■ Cambuslang Parish Church’s cafe is open every Wednesday from 10am through until noon. ■ Rutherglen United Reformed Church’s Go Ahead Club has started up again.

The nondenominational seniors club get together for tea and coffee every Wednesday at 2pm.

John Muir, Mr Swing, will entertain members today, October 11, with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin songs.

Tickets are available at the door and cost £3. ■ Rutherglen’s Salvation Army has a host of events going on, including toddler groups, the Jam Club and singing groups.

They will also be holding an October fun day on Wednesday, October 18.

It will run from 1pm to 4pm at their building on King Street, ■ Fernhill and Cathkin Church has started a knit and nattering class that will be held every Thursday from 10am until noon.

The tea room is open each week from 9.30-11.30am.

The Fitness Follies keep fit class meets every Wednesday at 10.30am. ■ Stonelaw Church’s Cafe@The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 2.30pm.

Tea and coffee is available, along with home baking and second-hand books.

The church holds 30-minute services in the meeting place on the first Wednesday of every month at 2pm. ■ On Thursday, October 26, the award-winning Renfrew Burgh Band will hold a concert in Toryglen Parish Church at 7.30pm in aid of church funds.

Tickets will be available at the door.

A bus has been organised to allow those in the Toryglen and Rutherglen area to attend the Reformation 500 service in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrew’s, on Tuesday, October 31.

Entry is £1.50. ■ Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon, entry £2.

■ Castlemilk Parish Church hold community meals on the first and third Fridays of the month. Soup, pizza and pavlova are available from 6-8pm along with live music.
