A pensioner who needs a three-framed walking frame to get around had her handbag snatched on Rutherglen Main Street.
The 76-year-old female was near the Clydesdale Bank at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, November 28 when the incident happened. She was approached by a male who started speaking to her as a distraction while he removed her handbag from her walking frame before running off.
Officers are carrying out enquiries to identify the male responsible. They say the victim was “clearly targeted” due to her vulnerability.
A police spokeswoman said: “We would ask that you make your elderly relatives and neighbours aware of this distraction method and although some people asking for help and directions can be genuine, there are also criminals who will use this method to target those who are vulnerable. Please always ensure that you keep your bags, purses and wallets safe.
“Try not to leave your handbag on the back of prams or in shopping trolleys, if you can, wear an across the body-style bag with a secure zip and always keep cash to a minimum.
The male suspect is described as 5ft 8 in height, slim build, beard, and a Scottish accent. He was wearing a beanie-style hat and a black puffer jacket and black trousers. The suspect is still outstanding and CCTV did not capture the incident.
