Cambuslang Colts 2008s has secured sponsorship to pay for their football strips.

The three-month-old club has received £600 funding from the Rutherglen Main Street Co-operative Food store.

As part of the deal, players, parents and coaching staff helped raise the first £100 by collecting donations outside the shop.

Colts chairman Daniel Griffin was delighted to accept the funding from Co-op store manager Mark Hedley and his team.

He said: “Mark knew I had a team in South Lanarkshire so he contacted myself and asked if we wanted them to sponsor us.

“It worked out to be £600 and we raised the first £100 outside the shop beforehand.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to Mark and his team for sponsoring Cambuslang Colts. He could have picked anyone but decided to choose us and we really appreciate it.”

Co-op boss Mark added: “We are delighted to help out a local team.

“The money will go towards their kits and it’s great to give them a boost financially.”

The 2001 side are in the quarter-finals of the league cup and the club look set to host their first ever midweek training camp from February 12 to 14.

However, as the majority of Colts teams look to kick start their season next month, the club is still looking for sponsorship to pay for kits and training facilities at Toryglen Regional Football Centre.
