Chloe joins development squad

A Cambuslang club boxer has been selected as part of the Scotland school girls development squad.

O’Neils ABC’s Chloe Bodwick, a Scottish champion, impressed national coaches following a successful year in the sport.

Mum Donna posted on Facebook: “Well and truly chuffed for our wee champ.

“A massive thanks to all her coaches for getting Chloe this far.

“Well done Chloe. Hard work, dedication has paid off once again, keep up the great work. You’re full family are so proud of you.”

Chloe took up boxing in October 2015, in honour of her late grandfather, who was also a boxer, and joined a Hamilton club where she got fitter, stronger and healthier, displaying a natural ability for the sport.

In January 2016 Chloe joined O’Neil’s ABC in Cambuslang, where head coach Brian Murphy and his team quickly recognised her talent and set about arranging exhibition matches and putting her forward for competitions.

Although Chloe lost her first two matches she learned from the experience, training longer and harder, improving her fitness and sharpness.

All of that hard work has paid off, as in the last year Chloe has won the 2016 Hull Box Cup and is Western District champion at 50kg and Scottish Novices Schoolgirl champion at 48kg.

Chloe represented Scotland in the GB 3 Nations School Championships, earning a silver medal by beating the English champion in the semi-final, only to lose out on gold by an accidental thumb to her eye in the final.
