Boss up for cup shock

Scottish Junior Cup 4th round preview

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey has vowed to give Bo’ness the respect they deserve but is confident his side can cause a Scottish Junior Cup upset.

The Glens welcome the three-time winners of the competition to the Celsius Stadium for the fourth round clash.

Harvey reckons the 10th placed East Super League team will be the bookies’ favourites to advance to the last 16, however the tag of the underdog will suit Glens after recent results in 2018.

The home team have won both their league matches since returning from their winter break, taking maximum points from league leaders Petershill and Kello Rovers last weekend.

And if the Glens pitch holds up to the snow and rain expected to fall in Rutherglen this week, Harvey hopes to name a full strength team.

He said:“If the game goes ahead with this weather that’s meant to be coming the wins do set us up well.

“Our strikers are scoring goals, our midfielders are strong and Jamie Hamilton, with two good training sessions under his belt this week, could be in contention to come back. But our two [central] midfielders are playing out of their skins right now so it will be hard to shift them out of the team.

“Bo’ness are a big team, they may be struggling in the league but that can happen to any team. This is one game and anything can happen. They are due respect from ourselves and are probably the favourites on Saturday but we are quite happy to be the underdogs. Just look what happened at Petershill.”

Bo’ness accepted the resignation of manager Allan McGonigal earlier this month and his assistant, Steve Kerrigan, has stepped into the hot seat.

Glens boss Harvey, however, is keen to focus on his own side’s situation.

“You don’t know how much of a say he [Kerrigan] had in things. You know my philosophy. If it was a quarter or semi-final then I would maybe have a team watched but I like to focus on my own team and let the other team worry about us.”
