Molloy sees harsh red card

- Jim Logan at Barrfields Park

Largs Thistle ....... A(1) Cambuslang ........ A(0) Cambuslang Rangers’trip to the seaside did not start or end in the fashion they had wanted as they conceded early in a match which was cut short at half-time.

In the bizarre game Lang welcomed back Kris Gebbie.

Callum McRobbie was still feeling the effects of flu and was on the bench.

The same went for striker John Gemmell while Chris Duff made his debut after completing his move from Queen’s Park.

The home side opened the scoring after only five minutes when Liam McVey fired a cross into the box for Scott Adam to volley home from 12 yards.

Lang were reduced to 10 men after Craig Molloy was shown a straight red card. It did look like the Lang player played the ball but caught Gary Fleming on the follow through, completely by accident but the referee, who was not having the best of games, sent the Lang player off.

A few minutes later and a similar incident resulted in the Largs man only receiving a yellow card much to the dismay of Lang players, management and supporters.

Lang went closest to scoring through Dale Simeon as his free kick was superbly saved by the Thistle keeper.

The match was then abandoned soon after the half-time whistle, much to the confusion of those inside Barrfields Park.

Commenting on the referee’s decisions, manager Paul McColl raged: “He’s sent Molloy off when he hasn’t seen it from a great angle.

“He’s failed to spot a sending off for them and a few other decisions as well.”

The Lang got back on track in a friendly on Monday night after defeating Central District Second side Royal Albert 9-3.

•The draws for two cup competitions have been made.

Cambuslang will return to Largs for the second round of the West of Scotland Cup while a win over Newmains would lead them to a second round tie with Pollok in the Central League Cup. Rutherglen Glencairn play St. Roch’s away.
