Walking on sunshine?

- Johnathan Geddes

Cambuslang Parish Church’s walking group were determined not to let any wet weather rain on their parade recently.

And the group were in luck, as they finally landed some good weather.

As the walkers met outside the church for their latest walk they were a bit despondent as rain was forecast for the afternoon.

The previous month had seen their walk postponed due to the snow, then the rescheduled walk was cancelled due to heavy rain.

It seemed that the weather was not being kind to the group.

Arriving at Aberfoyle, the members quickly set off hoping to get a few miles in before the rain came on.

The route started along the road, but after Milton the party turned onto a forest trail through the Loch Ard Forest.

The leader of the day got a few bonus points when a picnic table was used for the morning break.

Walking on, the group next stopped at a point giving a fine view down to Loch Ard.

The route then turned under the aqueduct that is part of the pipeline which brings the water from Loch Katerine to the reservoir at Milngavie, marking the mid-point of the walk.

Although still dry there was a cold wind consequently the group took advantage of a wall to have a sheltered spot for lunch.

Once the lunch was over the group continued down the trail back to Aberfoyle.

Arriving back at the car park everyone was pleasantly surprised to be still dry.

After a social stop in the Woollen Mill, the group then headed home, and five minutes out of Aberfoyle the rain started.

However, the group did not care as they were nice and dry inside their cars.
