Homes are left without water

- Murray Spooner

Rutherglen residents were this week told not to worry if they spotted discoloured water coming from their taps due to a burst water main.

Scottish Water apologised to locals and motorists who were affected by the damage to pipes and a section of Cambuslang Road on Thursday evening, May 31.

One resident took to social media to alert the utility company of the problem.

He said: “I’ve got no water hot or cold at the moment. Looking down the road it looks like you’ve got a burst pipe on Cambuslang Road, Rutherglen just before the M74 on ramp!”

A spokesman for Scottish Water commented: “A burst water main on Cambuslang Road, which resulted in water supplies to be off or at low pressure for some of our customers in the area has now been repaired.

“As we’ve moved water around in a different way to usual, some customers may see some discoloured water. This is nothing to worry about, it’s just harmless sediment that’s been stirred up, and it will gradually clear by running your cold kitchen tap at half pressure.

“We know how difficult it is to have no water, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.”

Scottish Water sought contractors to start repairs on Cambuslang Road on Thursday morning and temporary traffic lights remained on site until reinstatement had taken place.

The spokesman added: “We apologise to everyone affected by the burst or who’s going to have a longer journey than normal to or from work and school because of traffic management in place.

“We would also like to thank you for your patience while we carried out repairs.”
