Merger completed

- Jonathan Geddes

A Cambuslang firm has merged with a UK wide company in a multi-million pound deal.

Plant and crane hire company AB 2000, who employ over 250 staff and are based on Westburn Drive, have been acquired by Quattro.

The deal will see the merging of AB 2000’s head office and two further regional depots with Quattro Group’s existing national network.

All staff will be retained, and the companies said that there will be no significant changes to the key management.

AB 2000 was founded in 1995 by Adam Bruce, who welcomed the move and will remain as an advisor with the organisation.

He said: “At AB 2000 we have worked hard to succeed by hiring high quality, experienced people focused on providing our customers with leading- edge equipment and an outstanding customer service experience and I am confident that John Murphy and his team will continue with these core values.

“I would like to say thank you to the employees at AB 2000, our customers, our suppliers and other partners who have helped us succeed over the decades.”

The group, which has a turnover of nearly £30million, includes its core plant hire division, Ellon Plant Hire, Phoenix Weights and Phoenix Marine.

Current AB 2000 chief executive Jim Houston will now hold the position of managing director.

John Murphy, managing director of Quattro Plant said: “The AB 2000 team, led by Adam Bruce, has worked tirelessly to grow a great business centred on providing vital services to the Scottish market.

“This customer-service focus and high level of delivery sits perfectly in line with the Quattro Group ethos, and we felt that this deal would provide a natural partnership.”
