A Cambuslang tennis club’s ambitious renovation programme has taken another step forward.

Kirkhill Tennis Club have netted £35,000 each from Tennis Scotland and Sport Scotland, which takes the club to their target figured needed to start their Blaes For Glory modernisation scheme.

Among the work includes new all weather courts, floodlighting, new fencing and a new practice area.

The project will now get underway in the middle of June, after the current season ends, and is expected to last for eight weeks.

The club are hopeful the new look courts will be ready for the club championships in September.

Club President, Jacqueline Clark said: “The funding sub-committee has worked extensively on this project over the last three years and hopefully we will now see the fruits of all the labour involved.

“It is an exciting time to be involved at Kirkhill as we take the club into the modern age.

“This will really help us to continue to build on our recent success in membership growth and help expand links with the community of Cambuslang.”

The news follows the club securing several other funding sources earlier this year, including money and support from the likes of Viridor Credits Environmental Company, the SUEZ Communities Trust and the Renewable Energy Fund managed by South Lanarkshire Council.

To mark the start of this new phase the club is hosting a party on Saturday June 9 to say a fond farewell to their 103-year-old blaes courts.

The family event, open to all, will have a tournament and a BBQ.

Entry is free for members and £5 per adult and £2 per child for non-members.
