Coffee Cup closure is very concerning
Dear Editor, I am shocked and saddened to find out that the Big Coffee Cup’s lease has not been renewed and it will be closing this year.
It is one of the few busy and thriving cafes in the arcade and I cannot understand this decision.
You must know that the closure of this will affect all age groups and types of people in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area.
Pensioners who meet there as part of their daily and weekly routine, young preteens who are just starting to venture out on their own and are trusted to go here as it’s part of the safe environment of the arcade, and people with learning difficulties and disabilities use this establishment for these reasons also.
I will be contacting the local councillor and South Lanarkshire Council regarding this also. Deborah Dyer Rutherglen
Sadness over Clare
The committee of Cambuslang Summerfest have lost a great friend and champion with the sad passing of Clare McColl.
When Clare was the councillor for Cambuslang she was an ardent supporter of our event, Clare always highlighted Summerfest’s commitment to the community she loved so much.
Clare always fought our corner when we were going through our worst times when our funds weere cut, and supported us not only in kind but very generously from her own pocket.
On a personal note myself and my partner John have lost a great friend whom we will miss so much.
We send our sincere condolences to Clare’s family. Liz Watson Secretary Cambuslang Summerfest
What a waste!
I recently ordered a supply of food waste bags from South Lanarkshire Council online.
I was then asked to fill in a survey asking about age, gender, sexual orientation, religion and ethnic origin.
Why does the council need to know this? I just want to put my food waste in the bags, not have a relationship with them. There will be staff employed to compile statistics about this and come up with a report. What good will this do?
If it’s found that 25-year-old transgender Buddhists recycle more than 55-year-old heterosexual Christian women, so what?
Everyone gets the same allocation of at most 150 bags a year anyway.
What a waste of everyone’s time. Dorothy Connor
