Crowdsflocktoschool’ssummerfete

The sun may have set on yet another fantastic summer fair at Calderwood Primary school – but there is still a warm feeling among staff and pupils after news that they raised more than £5000.

The youngsters, teachers, parent council, parents and carers were delighted to see months of hard work really pay off – they raised £5226 – and they were really pleased that Mr Sun got his hat on for the day as the crowds flocked to the Rutherglen school last Saturday.

When they stepped through the doors they were transported to a beach-themed extravaganza that really put everyone in the mood for a summer holiday.

Outside super summer selfies were snapped on a giant deck chair, while elsewhere people tried their hand – and feet – at rugby, tennis and a whole host of games and fun in the sun as the DJ spun some great summer tunes.

Inside there were stalls galore with everything from bespoke jewellery to designer handbags, great raffle prizes were up for grabs and even Krispy Kreme set up shop for the day to satisfy the sweet tooth in everyone.

Jayne Swanson, chairperson of the parent council, told how the school was once again touched by the generosity shown by the local community who support the youngsters year after year at their annual fair.

She said: “Our summer fair was a real celebration of the Calderwood community and we were delighted that so many people came along to have some fun in the sun on Saturday.

“The parent council and school are incredibly lucky to be so well supported by the families of Calderwood and the wider community and we couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative of that amazing support.

“Every year we are blown away by the amount of money that is raised at the fair and all of the £5226 profit will go straight to enhancing the education and school experience of all our wee ones.

“So thank you again for helping everyone at Calderwood make their school days some of the best of their lives.”
