Disco Inferno show is hot ticket in town

Pupils wow crowd with high school musical

- Jonathan Geddes

It was blazing hot at Trinity High recently.

The school put on the musical Disco Inferno, with more than 70 pupils working hard to ensure that the show was a hit.

Set in 1976, the show features memorable songs of the 1970s era, including Boogie Nights, Celebration and Hot Stuff, and is loosely based on the old German legend Faust, with main character Jack selling his soul to a femme fatale in a bid to have pop success.

Stewart Miller, the school’s head of performing arts, was producer on the show, which was performed on three evenings.

He said: “It was a roaring success, supported by the local community, parents and family of pupils. A large part of the work is about preparing pupils for life, work and learning after school, and working together on a musical like Disco Inferno is a real help with that – and it’s got good songs too!

“The pupils had a fantastic time and I was proud and humbled to see them doing it as I knew how hard they had worked, both on stage and off. It really enhances their learning at Trinity High.

“We had about 25 people doing behind the scenes work, and that developed their skills too, working with lighting, sound effects etc.

“Since January there has been a lot of commitment from everyone and that meant that it was all the more satisfying when the shows came off well.”
