Father Figures (15)
Separately Ed Helms and Owen Wilson have tore it up in a series of hilarious comedies, including Wedding Crashers and The Hangover.
You’d think, then, that putting them together would by a recipe for a cavalcade of laughs. Alas the pairing can’t survive lazy scripting and a pretty miserable directing bow from Lawrence Sher.
A shame as the plot – where Helms and Wilson’s twin brothers search for their real father – was ripe with comedic potential. The leading duo can’t get off lightly either as they share a disturbing lack of chemistry.
Although, acting heavyweights Glenn Close and J.K. Simmons rise above the material to supply a few laughs.
