Thanks for a great Landemer Day!
Dear Editor, I would like to take the opportunity in this, the year of the young person, to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Rutherglen Landemer Day celebrations.
The young and not so young came along and took part in our annual community event and the good weather proved to be a bonus for everyone concerned.
As in previous years, the Landemer Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day an enjoyable one for so many people.
The pageant group from our local secondary schools – Queen Kaitlyn Crawford and her ladies in waiting Molly McBride and Angela Clemente from Rutherglen High, Morgan Lee and Rachel Campbell from Cathkin High, Carole-Anne Hopkins and Alexandra Pollock from Stonelaw High, Amy Duffin and Kayla Jackson from Trinity High and our champion Stuart Loftus from the ATC all showed what fine ambassadors they are for the young people in our area. Our thanks are due to Mrs Anne Marie McNair, head teacher from Cathkin High, for crowning Queen Kaitlyn, to Abbey McDonald, the Dowager Queen and Rev Aquila Singh, minister of Fernhill and Cathkin Church for assisting with the ceremony.
The Cambuslang Parish Church Pipe Band, the young singers from Cathkin and the cheerleaders all helped to set the scene for the enjoyable day of entertainment that included music from Rebrand, the Bronx Show Band, ACE music group, Rebekah Kirk and Toby and Missing Focus.
The committee would like to thank the many sponsors and supporters who helped to make sure the day was a success – SLC, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Arnold Clark with a special thanks to A C Vauxhall and Gordon, for providing the cars when our original arrangement fell through, Clyde Gateway, Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association, ASDA, 20 Social Club, West and Wardlawhill Church, Rutherglen Community Council, St John’s Operative Masonic Lodge 347, Rutherglen Library, The Reformer and the Town Hall.
