Following a bite to eat with a glass of wine, 54 players were randomly allocated to rinks and play commenced in the Lunch Bowl competition.

It was a hot day so hats and sun-cream were in high demand.

Each person played three games of four ends and had to change rinks for each game.

Everyone played for themselves as they were in different teams for every game. As each rink had its own characteristics, competitors had to quickly adjust to their conditions as quickly as possible at each and every game. After the individual scores were counted for each person, the winner was ascertained. Mrs Barbara Cunningham (East Kilbride Bowling Club) won overall. The person winning the booby prize was Mrs Pat McNulty of Kirkhill Bowling Club.

The afternoon finished with tea, coffee and cakes as well as a raffle. Last week started with the Monday night aggregate game which was well attended and provided the usual thrills and spills competing for the prizes.

The winning team on the night was made up of Jim Jamieson, Steven Leonard, Chebs Mackintosh and skipped by Lexi Abercrombie who gelled on the night to win by the highest number of shots.

Andrew Wilson played in the final of the Bowls Scotland Junior singles on Thursday against Grant Cameron of Kingswood BC. At the start of the game Andrew was on the back foot and Grant quickly raced into a five shot lead after three ends.

In the fourth end Andrew was lying two shots down when he delivered a fantastic last bowl to get his first point on the table and by the ninth end had clawed his way back to level the score at 8-8. Grant recovered and by the 16th end led by 18 shots to 11.

Andrew responded and brought the game back to 20-15 in Grant’s favour.

In the final end Grant picked up the shot he needed to get over the line and win the game. This was a fantastic game of bowls and over the 21 ends of bowls played, the player lying shot changed with the final bowl in no less than seven ends.
