Gymnasts have really Scot the lot
Talented Spectrum stars wow international judges
Rutherglen gymnasts were flying the flag for Scotland and impressed the judges on the international stage.
Alex Morgan and Mia Blair, of Spectrum Gymnastics Club, were crowned Grade 4 Mixed Pair Inter Regional Champions after putting in tremendous performances to win gold in Southampton.
Ailie Slivinski, Ronnie Wilson and Grace McKenzie also produced outstanding routines to finish eighth, while Millie Wilson and Emily Penny took fourth place last month.
Head coach Susan Provan said: “Spectrum has only been competing for a few years. And gaining medal positions at national competitions in such a short period is down to the hard work by our gymnasts, coaches and fantastic support of parents.
“We now have a number of gymnasts training at international level so we may have a few more of our members going on to represent Scotland in the future.
“The club recently held a fundraiser to help with cost towards the trip to Southampton and Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council added their support and awarded our gymnasts a substantial grant.”
Spectrum members had to perform well at the Scottish Championships in April in order to represent their nation and qualify for the Inter Regionals in England. Alex and Mia, the Grade 4 Mixed Pair, won silver and Ailie, Ronnie and Grace, a Grade 3 Women’s trio, took home bronze.
Grade 1 Women’s Pair Millie and Emily qualified with a fourth place finish.
Susan added: “We’ve got some super people at the club. Alex is doing really well. He recently won gold at the West of Scotland competition. He’s at the top of his game; we’re really proud of him.”
The club wish to thank Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council for their support. The organisation also introduced the Endeavour Award for Gymnastics which is awarded every year to the gymnast who has shown to be a great role model in their commitment to the sport.
Spectrum, based in Springhall Community Centre, was recently awarded charity status and continues to grow – with over 140 members on their books.
