Halfway and District Bowling Club retained the McGinley Cup with victory over near neighbours Cambuslang.

The friendly match saw the gents run out 3-2 winners on Saturday to win the trophy which was first played for in 1977.

Meanwhile, the Halfway ladies triple team of Flo Thomson, Sandra Hughes and Maureen Lewis lost their Lanarkshir­e Women’s Bowling Associatio­n (LWBA) district semi-final at Douglas last Wednesday.

In the Cambuslang and District Top 10, the ladies were away to East Kilbride on Tuesday and are at home to Whitefield next Monday.

In the Lanarkshir­e League there were mixed fortunes last Friday night.

Division 3 only picked up one point out of six away to Newmains but Division 10 got back on track by gaining four points at home to Eddlewood.

Games will take place tonight, Wednesday, before the holiday break. Division 3 are at home to Strathaven while Division 10 travel to Hamilton Caley.

In the District 26 Seniors League Halfway A are still in with a shout of winning their section. They won at home and drew away to Larkhall last week.

Opponents this week were Stonehouse and they take on Strathclyd­e next week.

Halfway B won away to Red Deer but lost at home. They play Uddingston before facing Blantyre next week.

In the Rutherglen and District Bowling Associatio­n (RDBA) Triples League last Tuesday, Halfway narrowly lost both games against Tollcross. This week’s opponents were Cambuslang and play Rutherglen next week.

The balloted pairs get underway this Saturday at 12pm.

Halfway’s Rosebowl fun day will take place on July 21 and is open to all members. Players are invited to bring along a non bowler. More details will follow next week and on the club’s Facebook page and noticeboar­d.

Halfway Bowling Club also played host to a 90th birthday party for Cambuslang man Tam Moore last month.

Tam grew up on Bothwell Street and attended Eastfield public school and Gateside Secondary. He worked at Clydebridg­e steel works and the ship yards and also served in the British Army between January 1946 till July 1948.

The married dad of four and his family wish to say a big thanks to more than 70 guests who came along to celebrate his birthday on June 22 and those who sent cards and gifts. Cambuslang’s RDBA Triples League teams won their home match but lost the away game against Rutherglen BC last Tuesday.

The following day saw the seniors teams lose both games at home to Burnside.

Cambuslang’s RDBA Triples were due to play Halfway home and away yesterday and the seniors are away at Whitefield this morning.

Cambuslang had a triples team playing on July 7, at Rutherglen BC in the RDBA Jubilee Triples competitio­n.

Twelve member bowling clubs from the RDBA took part including; Rutherglen, Kirkhill, Cambuslang, Overtoun Park, Templeton, Burnside, Croftfoot, Halfway, Whitefield, Kingswood, St.Leonards and Tollcross.

Two sections of six competed and both section winners Cambuslang, whose team consisted of Will McArthur, Jim Low and Jim Kirk and Rutherglen, with a team of Ron McDonald, Kenny Grummitt, Jackie Ferguson, made it to the final.

It was a very close and well fought out final with Cambuslang winning by one shot after five played ends.

The RDBA Jubilee Triples competitio­n started in 1992 and this is the second time Cambuslang have won it. The last time being in 2017. Burnside Bowling Club’s Monday aggregate game was won by the old heads of Lexi Abercrombi­e, A. Brown, David Robertson. And the infamous Boots McDonald took the prizes with a lead of 10 shots.

The Cambuslang and District Seniors continued their recent improved form when both teams won at Cambuslang.

Just to balance things out, both the Rutherglen and District Triples League teams narrowly lost out in their games against Kirkhill.

The annual Ayrshire games took place with five teams heading out to various clubs.

The only team to experience the bitter taste of defeat was that of Cammy Taylor, Pete Monaghan, Chris Allan and skip Iain Mackintosh.

Iain did explain it was merely a courtesy to the host club.

Many internal competitio­n games are now being played most evenings and everyone is encouraged to come along and enjoy them as the club heads into the serious end of the season. Rutherglen Bowling Club were among all RDBA who took part in a very competitiv­e but most enjoyable day in the Jubilee Triples on Saturday.

The winners were Cambuslang who beat Rutherglen with the last bowl in a very close final.

Rutherglen had two wins in the Cambuslang and District Seniors League away from home at Cambuslang. This week’s game is at home against Mount Florida.

The RDBA Triples league game last Tuesday evening against Cambuslang ended with the points being shared with a home win for each club. This week’s game is against Croftfoot.

The NE League starts again this week with a game against Springboig.

Rutherglen’s Millenium Triples team, after a drawing in points against Mount Vernon, were beaten on shots difference last Wednesday evening.

The Glasgow Top Ten tournament starts this week with Rutherglen at Hillington BC.

The Monday evening aggregate was won by Alasdair Campbell and Jim Morton.

The club’s ladies held their charity fun day on Sunday when they all had to wear pink and white, even the barman who was dressed to match. A great day was had and £283.00 was raised to be donated to cancer charity Marie Curie.

The Ladies West of Scotland District Finals were held at Templeton BC last Tuesday.

Rutherglen pair Helen Stevenson and Betty Duckett won against Halfway and now go on to the inter district finals. In the Lanarkshir­e District top six semi-final the gents had a narrow 2-1 defeat against Motherwell.

The Lanarkshir­e League saw the Division 7 team win two points against Airdrie Central however, the Division 17 team collected four points away to Bellshill.

In the RDBA Triples League, both teams recorded victories against Overtoun Park. In the Cambuslang and District League, there was a win and a loss against Mount Vernon.

Finally, the gents aggregate was won by Jim Molloy, Ronnie Cowie and Jimmy Gallagher.
