Top boss Sinead

Chemist staff back new boss

- Niki Tennant

A Rutherglen pharmacist who has earned the immense respect, trust and admiration of both her staff and customers has been honoured by her colleagues who nominated her for this week’s Say it with Flowers bouquet.

Sinead Margey knew it wouldn’t be an easy task when she took the reins of Dickson Chemist in the Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre when her predecessor Linda Pringle stepped down after 30 years.

It was a case of back to the future for Sinead, who worked in the Rutherglen pharmacy in 2009 when she was a university student.

She trained at Dickson’s Bridgeton store before moving to Viewpark and took the helm as manager of the Rutherglen premises in June.

Sinead faced the challenge of winning over not only the dispensing team at the pharmacy but also clients who were unaccustomed to change.

She rose to the role with ease by introducing efficient new practices and persuading customers that she is a safe pair of hands who is adept at dealing patiently and professionally with their needs.

The dispensing team at Dickson Chemist have been so impressed with their new manager, and how she has within a short period become a trusted and respected part of the local community, that they nominated her for our stunning Say it with Flowers bouquet, lovingly crafted by talented florist Janet Freeman, owner of Stems of Burnside.

In sending in her nomination, dispenser Michelle Sutherland told the Reformer: “Sinead deserves flowers as she is a fairly new manager to our shop and has turned things around for the better.

“She has had a hard time from customers, as she is not the pharmacist they were used to, and was constantly explaining herself and asking to be given a chance.

“Sinead really deserves the flowers, and I say this on behalf of all staff at Dickson’s.”

And all of Michelle’s colleagues agreed. The nomination was endorsed by the entire dispensing team at the family-owned pharmacy: team leader Caitlin Hendry, Sam Campbell, Ross McLaren, Pauline Manson, Heather Steen, Taylor Bradley, Maureen Corbett, Neha Tomey and driver Gordon McDonald.

“Sinead came from within Dickson’s from a quieter shop,” explained Michelle.

“She has changed things to make it easier and more productive. Every day we get difficult customers and Sinead has the ability to calm them down.

“She never lets anyone get to her at all and is a very calm person to work with. She has been well praised and does her job very, very well.”

Michelle, who has worked in the Rutherglen chemist for two-and-ahalf-years, continued: “Everybody deserves flowers, but because of everything she has done, we felt we had to nominate her.

“With customers, she gets good days and bad days. She has made changes that make it easier for us to do our jobs.

“She has not had a holiday since she started. She is young and has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders and handles it fantastically.”

Describing her staff as capable, hard working, approachable and positive, Sinead said: “I am very grateful. This is a really nice gesture. It is nice to feel that someone appreciates what you do.”
