An Antiques Roadshow style event is set to roll into town – and TV star Anita Manning will make a guest appearance.

The Rotary Club of Rutherglen has organised a fun antiques charity event, which will take place in The Kings Park Hotel on Friday, November 9.

Telly personality Anita and her team of experts from Great Western Auctions will host the fundraiser, and are inviting people to bring their fascinating vintage items along.

The experts will make valuations on up to three items per person in exchange for charity donations.

The fun fundraiser is being held to support Rotary’s worldwide campaign “End Polio Now”.

Most people have heard of polio, but few know that the disease still affects children around the world.

For more than 30 years, Rotarians and partner organisations have been working to end the disease forever.

This huge effort to rid the world of polio is 99 percent complete, with only three countries in which polio remains endemic.

Rotary club vice president David Paul, who organised the antiques event in Rutherglen, said:“This is the club’s first event of this type.

“And while Anita and Great Western Auctions have been involved in a few similar events in recent years, this will be the first for them in South Lanarkshire.

“We approached them and they immediately said yes, and since then Anita and her crew have been most enthusiastic and encouraging.

“It is very generous of them to give a huge amount of time and effort in supporting us.” The antiques fundraiser is a pay on the door event and one valuation will be £5, while three valuations will cost £10.

The rotary club is encouraging everyone interested to look out their favourite pieces of silver, jewels, China, pictures and other collectables. There will also be a raffle, a competition, and refreshments available at the event.

Anita Manning, 70, is well known for her appearances as an expert and presenter on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and the Antiques Road Trip.
