The Care Inspectorate is Scotland’s watchdog for social care, social work and criminal justice social work. The independent body regulates 14,000 care services: childminders, nurseries, care homes, care at home, housing support and many other specialist care types. Around 9000 inspections are carried out every year – mostly unannounced – and it deals with around 3000 complaints against care services every year.
