The re­gion’s stamp col­lec­tion group re­cently hosted an­other vin­tage dis­play.

La­nark­shire Philatelic So­ci­ety held a meet­ing last Fri­day even­ing where mem­ber Wal­ter Tyther­leigh gave a post­card dis­play en­ti­tled ‘Weimar Repub­lic’.

He gave a pre­sen­ta­tion fea­tur­ing many fas­ci­nat­ing Ger­man post­cards fol­low­ing the end of the First World War up un­til 1930.

The first cards viewed were of the train in the For­est of Com­piègne where the Ar­mistice was signed, com­ing into ef­fect on Novem­ber 11, 1918.

Other his­tor­i­cal post­cards were dis­played which gave mem­bers an idea of the great po­lit­i­cal up­heaval that hap­pened in Ger­many af­ter WWI and the Treaty of Ver­sailles be­ing signed.

David Haig led group mem­bers in thank­ing Wal­ter Tyther­leigh for pre­sent­ing such an in­ter­est­ing ar­ray of post­cards not gen­er­ally seen.

The philatelic so­ci­ety next meets in the Cale­do­nian Bowl­ing Club, Hamil­ton, on Fri­day, Novem­ber 2 at 7.30pm.
