Gormley hat-trick seals the win

Craigmark B ...1 Glencairn ........ 5

Liam Gormley fired a late hattrick to superbly round off another convincing win for Glencairn on Saturday.

Willie Harvey’s lads recorded their 10th league win of the season thanks to goals from Jordan Leyden, Jay McKay and Gormley’s treble.

Gormley, who previously had stints with Morton, East Fife and Queen’s Park, joined Glencairn from Cambuslang Rangers in September 2017.

His impressive performances in recent weeks are helping him forget about frustrating injuries last year.

Gormley said: “The main thing for me is always to get in the team every week and prove people wrong.

“On Saturday, I didn’t get too many chances in the game, but I managed to get my three goals late on. It was pleasing to score them in quick succession at the end of the match.”

Willie Harvey’s side took the lead through Jordan Leyden before Craigmark pulled a goal back.

Jay McKay scored from the penalty spot, and then Gormley gave them no hope of stealing a point when he scored his hattrick within 10 minutes.

The first came in the 79th minute when he headed home a Tony Fraser cross.

He fired a shot into the bottom corner a minute later, and netted from a Harry Mitchell cross in the 88th minute.

Midfielder Mitchell was chosen as the Glen’s man of the match.

Willie Harvey’s side have now scored 44 goals in 11 league matches, averaging four goals scored and one goal conceded per game.

The Rutherglen lads are still sitting at the top of the league, with Benburb just three points behind.

This Saturday, Glencairn travel nearly 200 miles to Keith in Moray to face Islavale in the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Islavale are top of the North Region Second Division, having won six and drawn two of their league matches.

The Keith side will be a tough test and high in confidence as they are coming off the back of a 6-0 home win against mid-table Whitehills.
