GP Claire prescribes herself weight loss

Brilliant results as doc charts progress online

- Graham Miller

GP Claire Granger spends her days helping patients to stay healthy.

But earlier this year the doctor got to the point where her own health and fitness began to dip after she piled on the pounds.

The 34-year-old mum-oftwo decided to write herself a prescription: for slimming sessions.

And it was just what the doctor ordered – for since joining Weight Watchers Claire has lost almost four stones and got back into shape.

She told the Reformer: “When my little boy Adam was christened in June this year, I was conscious that I was as big as I had ever been,

“It should have been an amazing day for me, and a day to enjoy, but this was the day I realised I had to lose weight.

“I was aware I was as big as I had been when he was born.

“I also read an article that said that if you’re overweight your kids have an 80 per cent chance of being overweight – and I didn’t want that for my boys.

“Prior to having my boys, I was the healthiest and fittest I’ve ever been.

“But two kids in less than three years took its toll.

“I never really lost the baby weight between having my kids, then sleep deprivation and general life allowed me excuses to not lose the baby weight after my youngest was born in January 2018.”

Claire became a member of the Weight Watchers group in Rutherglen, joining a weekly workshop and getting support from her coach Lynda and fellow group members.

However, Claire had another remedy to her own health problem – she documents her own weight loss journey on social media.

She created an Instagram page (diary_of_a_slimming_mummy), sharing pictures of her progress and using it for motivation.

Claire also used the mobile phone app for Weight Watchers – now rebranded as WW – for planning her meals and finding tasty recipes.

“I’ve lost consistently and quickly and now 17 weeks in I’m only 4lbs off my goal weight of 11st 10lbs,” said Claire.

“I can’t believe how easy losing the weight could be, and I’ve loved going to my weekly workshop.

“I take my little boy with me to the workshops, and everyone loves seeing him.”

Claire added: “I’ve noticed as I’ve lost weight I have so much more energy. I’m back to running which I loved before having my children, and am planning on training for a half marathon, perhaps next year.

“But most of all I love running around with the kids. I’m so happy that I have turned things around and this will have a positive impact on their future. I can’t wait.

“We eat healthier as a family. We make positive, healthy choices and are much more mindful at eating.

“We always eat at the table now. The kids see their parents making healthy food decisions, and this will help them.”
