Delight for Durie
A Rutherglen boxing coach has spoken of his delight after his first fight as a professional trainer ended with a devastating first round victory.
Archie Durie runs Duries boxing gym on Cambuslang Road, and last weekend took took charge of his first professional fight as trainer of Scottish champion Jay Carrigan McFarlane, who was matched against David Howe.
Jay started strongly against the 6ft 8in tall fighter, forcing him into the back foot almost immediately throwing lots of overhand rights and big left hooks to the English man’s head, before catching him with a right hook to the side of the ribs that felled Howe for good.
Archie said:“This was a great result for Jay to avenge a two time defeat from a strong opponent in David Howe, and to win in the manner he did with a first round KO was fantastic.
“This win will set him up nicely for the start of the new year.”
Winner Archie Durie was delighted to see Jay Carrigan McFarlane emerge victorious
