Rutherglen Reformer

Winter wonderland

- Niki Tennant

Rutherglen and Cambuslang were transformed into winter wonderlands at the weekend with the turning on of the Christmas lights.

South Lanarkshire’s Provost Ian McAllan was joined by a host of colourful characters for the big switch-on in both towns.

Radio Clyde’s Gina McKie was the host for Rutherglen on Saturday and then Cambuslang on Sunday, with a special guest appearance by Santa Claus himself bringing fun and festive cheer to each occasion.

They were joined by a variety of top community acts, popular Paw Patrol characters and MC Gav.

Also dropping in to Rutherglen were top tribute act, Little Mix Magic, and Landemar Queen Kaitlyn Crawford, while pop and rock covers band Ernest topped the bill at Cambuslang.

Provost Ian McAllan told the Reformer: “Like so many other people, Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year.

“Part of the excitement is the build up to the big day and what better way to start than the Christmas lights.

“The atmosphere from all of the entertainers and, of course, from the local people attending was as festive as ever, and it was the perfect way to start counting down to Christmas with family and friends.”
