Awards joy for en­ergy as­ses­sor Shan­non

A trainee do­mes­tic en­ergy as­ses­sor from Castlemilk is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter re­ceiv­ing an award at Glas­gow Guar­an­tee’s an­nual cel­e­bra­tion awards.

Shan­non McLaugh­lin,19, who is cur­rently un­der­tak­ing a trainee­ship with the McDer­mott Group, was named as the win­ner of the Jobs with Train­ing Recog­ni­tion Award at a glitzy awards cer­e­mony held in Glas­gow City Cham­bers.

Shan­non was up against a short­list of trainees from across Glas­gow and was cho­sen as the win­ner of the award by a panel of judges made up of coun­cil­lors from Glas­gow City Coun­cil.

She was nom­i­nated by McDer­mott Group’s Louise Henry who recog­nised her de­ter­mi­na­tion to suc­ceed in her do­mes­tic en­ergy as­ses­sor trainee­ship, which al­lows her to earn while learn­ing.

Shan­non is also given a day ev­ery week by McDer­mott Group to work with a tu­tor to over­come lit­er­acy is­sues and she has taken the op­por­tu­nity in her stride, work­ing hard to de­velop in this area. Once she com­pletes her work place­ment, she will be of­fered a per­ma­nent po­si­tion with the com­pany.

The de­lighted teenager said: “It was such a sur­prise when I was nom­i­nated for the award.

“There are so many good trainees that could have been picked and for me to be given this award is a real con­fi­dence boost.

“I will con­tinue to put in the hard work at McDer­mott Group and re­ally en­joy my job.”

Louise Henry, Se­nior Reg­u­la­tory & Com­pli­ance Man­ager at McDer­mott Group, com­mented: “Shan­non has shown true grit in over­com­ing a myr­iad of ob­sta­cles in her per­sonal and pro­fes­sional life and hasn’t missed a beat in show­ing her will­ing­ness to learn.

“She is never late, al­ways tries her best and is a val­ued part of the team. In ad­di­tion to her trainee­ship, she is work­ing hard to over­come lit­er­acy is­sues and has shown her­self to be a wor­thy re­cip­i­ent of the Jobs with Train­ing Recog­ni­tion Award at the cer­e­mony.”
