Awards joy for energy assessor Shannon
A trainee domestic energy assessor from Castlemilk is celebrating after receiving an award at Glasgow Guarantee’s annual celebration awards.
Shannon McLaughlin,19, who is currently undertaking a traineeship with the McDermott Group, was named as the winner of the Jobs with Training Recognition Award at a glitzy awards ceremony held in Glasgow City Chambers.
Shannon was up against a shortlist of trainees from across Glasgow and was chosen as the winner of the award by a panel of judges made up of councillors from Glasgow City Council.
She was nominated by McDermott Group’s Louise Henry who recognised her determination to succeed in her domestic energy assessor traineeship, which allows her to earn while learning.
Shannon is also given a day every week by McDermott Group to work with a tutor to overcome literacy issues and she has taken the opportunity in her stride, working hard to develop in this area. Once she completes her work placement, she will be offered a permanent position with the company.
The delighted teenager said: “It was such a surprise when I was nominated for the award.
“There are so many good trainees that could have been picked and for me to be given this award is a real confidence boost.
“I will continue to put in the hard work at McDermott Group and really enjoy my job.”
