South Lanarkshire company, Excel Vending, are distributors of the RVM systems needed to deal with the new scheme.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, the firm are exclusive distributors for the non-retail sector and believe the move could create opportunities for them in the future.
Director, John MacDonald, said:“We are pleased to see the announcement of this scheme, particularly as it came two years after we invested in a reverse vending machine for our office.
“We believe an effective deposit return scheme (DRS) provides a fantastic platform to improve on Scotland’s current recycling rates to those found in Sweden, Norway and Finland, where rates exceed 90 per cent on single use containers.
“While the scope of the scheme has been set out by the announcement, there is work to be done on the final implementation and making it a reality.
“As we move forward, we expect the DRS to create opportunities for people to come up with innovative solutions to help Scotland lead the way on developing a circular economy and there is no reason why we can’t be at the forefront.
“Our local Morrisons, Lindsayfield store already has two RVM systems and we undertook a trial at St Andrews and St Brides school. The feedback was entirely positive with both students and staff engaging with the recycling initiative.”
