Kids are ‘failed’ by subject choices
Differences across South Lanarkshire in the number of subjects pupils can study at secondary school have been criticised in Holyrood by a Conservative MSP.
Graham Simpson made the comments after figures showed only four schools are offering eight subjects to pupils at S4 level.
However two of those four schools are in the local area, with Stonelaw High offering nine subjects and Trinity offering eight.
The majority of Scottish state schools offer six subjects
Graham Simpson said: “I am extremely worried that only four state schools across South Lanarkshire offer eight subjects at S4.
“Why should a kid at Biggar not have the same opportunities as someone at St Andrew’s and St Bride’s in East Kilbride?
“Every child across South Lanarkshire should have the same opportunities.
“Children are being failed by lack of subject choice.
“This is completely unacceptable.”
