Corinne named poster contest winner

-

Talented young Cambuslang artists were applauded when the Rotary Club of Cambuslang held a prize-giving ceremony for winners of its 2019 Annual Primary School Art Competition.

Nine schools – the greatest number in the competition’s three years – took part, with a record number of entries.

P7 pupils were asked to design a poster for the Cambuslang Summerfest on June 15.

The challenge attracted a variety of themes and ideas, and the judges commented on the high standard of all the submissions.

After long deliberation, they selected a winner from each school: James Aiton - Lara Garvie St Cadoc’s - Amber Keenan Hallside - Lauren McNeill Cairns - Lily Elder Park View - Rhona McLean Newton Farm - Sophie Ryder St Charles - Hayley Clark West Coats - Corinne Dyer St Bride’s - Callie-Jayne Cairns

Each of the winners, along with their parents and teachers, were invited along to the prize-giving night last Wednesday at the King’s Park Hotel, where all the posters were on display.

The evening began with an air of mystery as the cover was removed to reveal which poster had been selected as the overall winner.

A very happy Corinne Dyer, from West Coats Primary, was invited up to receive her prize from club president Robert Dickie. Robert then presented prizes to all the other winners and congratulated them on their success.

After the presentation, there was time to chat and enjoy the buffet supper provided by the hotel.

The Rotary Club of Cambuslang thanked all the schools who participated, the young artists for their efforts and club member and event organiser, Tony Neeson.
