Helen had the write stuff!

A Rutherglen schoolgirl won a top prize in the Scottish Section of the Royal Commonwealth Society Essay competition in May 1979. Helen McLaurin, a 14-year-old pupil at Stonelaw High, gained first place in the competition against entries from school children from all over Scotland, while fellow Stonelaw pupil Alan Porte’s essay was highly commended in the same section.
