High rise flats unsuitable for young kids

Readers took to social media to express their concern after we reported a young mum’s call for landlords to be more open about how suitable their properties are to house young families. Karrena Rodger spoke out after learning that her Kyle Court home was deemed unsuitable to house families with young children by the local authority. The 21-year-old will move into another home in the coming weeks after her Kyle Court tenancy turned into a nightmare when she found what she believes to be a bag of heroin and a discarded, used needle.

Karen Mclauchlin blasted: “Council seem to make sure junkies and alcoholics are housed while decent people have to rent privately. This is a disgrace. These people are costing council tax payers a fortune.”

Mark Johnston suggested: “North Lanarkshire Council are demolishing every high rise block so why can’t

South Lanarkshire Council do the same?”

Claire Gorman posted: “I wouldn’t let my dog stay in that building never mind my kid.”

While Donna Lynch wrote: “And what about the wee old men and women, just leave then there with all the junkies n God knows what else!”

Get on your bike When we reported that police were reminding motorists to give cyclists plenty of space after a 57-year-old man was hit by a car on Rutherglen Main Street, it sparked a flurry of activity on social media.

John Mcfadden suggested: “Hope they also remind cyclists that they do not own the road and to use the cycle lanes they fought so hard to get but forget to use.”

Jonathan Walker had a different view: “Police just making stuff up as they go along, Negating the driver’s fault and blaming the cyclist for his own injuries before it’s even happened.”
