A Rutherglen drummer is crying out for success with her new project.

Audrey Tait has released her first single with new outfit The Girl Who Cried Wolf – and the track has already been selected by Radio Scotland’s Janice Forsyth as her single of the week.

The band, who play alternative pop, is a collaboration between Audrey and her pal Lauren Gilmour, who previously played with highly regarded folk pop act Bella and the Bear.

The duo run the Novasound studio together, working with other acts and creating music for theatre show and film soundtracks.

Now they have decided to make music together and Audrey explained: “We have been writing for a few years now with Novasound on other projects, and in-between those ideas we’d been working on ideas for our own music.

“We both love a lot of great female led pop music, from Florence and the Machine to Kate Bush and Billie Eilish, and we wanted to something in that spirit.

“We have done this a bit differently than anything I’ve done before, because usually a band would write songs and play shows before doing any recording. This time we’ve handled the recordings first and now we’re starting to play gigs.”

Former Stonelaw High pupil Audrey also plays in acoustic-led singing duo the Miss’s, but The Girl Who Cried Wolf finds her back behind the drums, a role she previously filled in bands like Hector Bizerk.

However, she feels that her work with Novasound is the biggest boost to her latest endeavour.

She added: “With every project that we’ve done, whether it’s mixing or doing a soundtrack, we learn something, and we’re trying to use that in our new stuff.

“It’s all about honing your craft and doing different things.

“We have got a lot of visuals planned too – a guy called Austin Temby did the video for Way Back Down, and we’re working with James Murray for visuals for the gigs too.”

Way Back Down is available on streaming platforms now.
